A couple of years ago, we hosted a wedding weekend that perfectly captured everything we love about celebrating at Sugar Bowl. We’ve swapped a few details and photos for privacy, but the spirit remains the same. Think of this as a little inspiration for your own mountain wedding.

Most wedding venues give you six or seven hours. At Sugar Bowl, your wedding becomes an entire weekend shared with the people you love most. Your guests don’t just come for the ceremony. They stay together, explore together, celebrate together, and leave feeling like they’ve been on vacation.

Friday | Everyone’s Here

Guests begin arriving, checking into the beautifully restored mid-century Village Lodge or one of the nearby village homes.

Suitcases are dropped. Hugs are exchanged. Before long, your favorite people are all together in one place.

Instead of scattering across different hotels or coordinating rides around town, everyone settles into the Village together. The mountains slow the pace almost immediately.

Friday | A Lake Day Before “I Do”

Then it’s off to Lake Mary, our private high alpine lake reserved exclusively for you and your guests.

Some paddleboard across the glassy water. Others swim, kayak, play lawn games, or simply settle into Adirondack chairs with a drink in hand while lunch is served beneath the pines.

Across the lake, Sugar Bowl rises into the Sierra Crest, ribbons of snow still clinging to the rocky peaks into midsummer, reflected in the sparkling water below.

There’s nowhere to rush off to. Just a full afternoon of reconnecting before the wedding festivities begin.

Friday Afternoon | The Rehearsal

As the sun starts to dip behind the peaks, they wedding party returns to the Village for a rehearsal on the Wedding Green before heading back to Lake Mary.

Saturday Morning | Your Own Private Playground

The wedding isn’t until later. That’s one of the luxuries of spending the weekend in your own private mountain village.

Some guests linger over breakfast. Others head out for a hike on the Pacific Crest Trail, scramble across the world-famous granite of Donner Summit, borrow a mountain bike, wander through wildflower meadows, or spend the morning at the Sporthaus with a massage, yoga class, or soak in the spa.

Saturday Morning | The Wedding Party Gets Ready

Meanwhile, the wedding party gets ready just a short walk away in the Village Lodge and nearby homes.

No long drives. No shuttle schedules. No wondering where everyone is. Everything and everyone is right here.

Saturday Afternoon | The Celebration

Guests gather on the lush ceremony lawn outside the Village Lodge. Surrounded by towering pines, colorful summer wildflowers, and dramatic rocky face of Mt. Disney rising above the Village, it feels tucked into its own corner of the Sierra.

After the ceremony, nobody climbs into a shuttle. Instead, everyone steps onto the chairlift. Cocktail hour begins on Mt. Disney, where panoramic views and alpine air become part of the celebration.

Saturday Evening | No Curfew

When the outdoor celebration winds down…the night isn’t over. The party moves into the historic Belt Room for one more drink, one more story, and late-night tacos before finally calling it a night.

Sunday | One Last Morning Together

Morning comes a little slower. Guests wander downstairs for coffee and breakfast. Kids race across the lawn. Someone sneaks in one last wildflower walk. Someone else can’t resist one final jump into Lake Mary before the drive home.

Eventually, cars are packed. Hugs last a little longer. Goodbyes are a little harder. Because somewhere over the past four days, your wedding stopped feeling like an event…

…and became everyone’s favorite mountain vacation.

The Wedding Weekend | More Than a Venue

That’s what makes Sugar Bowl different. It’s not just a ceremony site. It’s an entire private mountain village where your guests can stay, explore, celebrate, and spend meaningful time together without ever needing to leave.

When the weekend comes to an end, your guests won’t just remember how beautiful the ceremony was. They’ll also remember swimming in an alpine lake, riding a chairlift to cocktail hour, dancing beneath the stars, laughing over breakfast, and spending a few unforgettable days together in the Sierra.

That’s the kind of beginning every great love story deserves.
