Sugar Bowl Resort Opens for 2009/10 Ski Season November 25th, Celebrates 70 Years of Skiing and Riding Atop Donner Summit

Sugar Bowl Resort announced today that opening day for the 2009/10 ski season, the resort’s 70th, will be Wednesday, November 25th. Both the White Pine and Jerome Hill chairlifts will be running, and the Judah Lodge will be open to accommodate all lift ticket, season pass, food & beverage, rental and lesson needs. Resort management intends to closely monitor both weather and snow-making temperatures over the coming week to take advantage of any potential for additional lift and trail openings for the holiday weekend. Sugar Bowl Resort and Alpine Skills International Host "Backcountry Ball", Celebrate Grand Opening of New Backcountry Adventure Center

Backcountry skiing enthusiasts and party-goers alike will descend upon The Lodge at Sugar Bowl this November 21st from 5:00 – 10:00pm to celebrate the opening of Sugar Bowl’s newest addition to the 70-year old resort, Alpine Skills International’s Backcountry Adventure Center. The Center, located in the Village Chalet retail building, will offer a full calendar of educational seminars, a vast array of backcountry-specific rental and retail items provided by Truckee’s The BackCountry, an avalanche transceiver training park, and of course professionally-guided sidecountry tours for powder skiing in and out of Sugar Bowl. Sugar Bowl Ski Team Host Golf Tournament Benefiting Tahoe Forest Hospice

Sugar Bowl Ski Team will host its annual golf tournament at the Resort at Squaw Creek this Monday, September 21st (9-21), benefiting the Tahoe Forest Hospice. With winter fast approaching and the subsequent need for numerous articles of cold weather clothing for families in need, the Ski Team is urging participants to bring bags of winter clothing, including old jackets, boots, hats and gloves, all to be donated to the Hospice. Sugar Bowl Puts on Labor Day Weekend Sat at Truckee High School, 50-75% Savings on Ski & Snowboard Gear

Sugar Bowl Resort To Install New Chairlift to Top of Mt. Judah, Maximizing Access to In-Bounds, Already Permitted Acreage

(Donner Summit, CA) – Sugar Bowl Resort announced today that the historic ski resort atop Donner Summit, in operation since 1939, will install a new chairlift this summer, accessing the Judah Bowl area of the mountain. Located within the resort’s already approved and current United States Forest Service (USFS) special use permit boundary, the new chairlift will take skiers and riders to the ridge top of Mt. Judah, dropping them off just below the summit. While skiers and riders can currently access this skiable acreage by hiking, the new lift will allow the resort to maximize usage of, and access to, skiable terrain within the currently permitted boundary. The chair, a CTEC-built Garaventa fixed-grip quad, will have an uphill capacity of 1,200 people per hour. Read More > > >


Four Peaks Restaurant opens for Summer Dining June 26, Belt Room Bar Offers Scenic Venue for Pacific Crest Trail Hikers

June 22, 2009. The Four Peaks Restaurant at Sugar Bowl Resort will open its doors for fine dining this Friday, June 26th (6-26), providing an elegant experience in a classic high-alpine Lodge atop Tahoe’s historic Donner Summit. Serving French-inspired California cuisine created by Chef Alan Davis, house favorites include pan seared Scottish salmon, New Zealand venison, seafood penne pasta and an impressive selection of homemade desserts. While the dining room is inviting and aesthetic, complete with historic black and white photos portraying the pioneers of Donner Summit, patrons will also have the option of dining al fresco on the newly remodeled patio deck, taking in alpenglow views and enjoying the newly installed fire pit in the courtyard, where families can cap a memorable evening by making fireside S’mores for dessert. Sugar Bowl Resort to Host Two U.S. Skiing/FIS Ski-Cross Races March 27-29

(Donner Summit, CA) Sugar Bowl Resort announced today that two sanctioned U.S. Skiing/FIS Ski-Cross race events will be held at the resort this March 27-29, 2009, with an anticipated 35-45 skiers competing on Sugar Bowl's new ski-cross course located on the Tunnel 41 trail off the Mt. Judah chairlift. Competitors from the United States must have both a current USSA national freestyle license and FIS freestyle license, while international competitors are required to carry an FIS license with inscription from their home nation. Sugar Bowl Announces New Marketing Director

Sugar Bowl Ski Corporation has selected John Monson to be the resort’s new Director of Marketing and Sales. Monson, 37, will be responsible for leading all promotional initiatives for the historic Tahoe resort.

“We are thrilled to have someone with John’s experience and skill set joining our team”, said Sugar Bowl General Manager Rob Kautz. “We’re confident that his efforts will not only deliver local and regional results, but have a far-reaching presence into the industry overall”. The Switch Board, Sugar Bowl’s new social networking website, has officially been launched into the virtual world. The new site provides snow sports enthusiasts with a place to join and gather online, sharing stories, photos, videos, events, blogs and more. In addition to connecting Sugar Bowl fans with a place to generate discussions and share ideas, the site will also provide skiers and riders a place to find and provide carpool options with a dedicated ride share page, effectively addressing some of the industry’s concerns regarding reduced visitation due to high gas prices, while at the same time contributing to Sugar Bowl’s environmental stewardship efforts.
