SUGAR BOWL RESORT TO HOST TWO U.S. SKIING/FIS SKI-CROSS RACES MARCH 27-29

(Donner Summit, CA) Sugar Bowl Resort announced today that two sanctioned U.S. Skiing/FIS Ski-Cross race events will be held at the resort this March 27-29, 2009, with an anticipated 35-45 skiers competing on Sugar Bowl's new ski-cross course located on the Tunnel 41 trail off the Mt. Judah chairlift. Competitors from the United States must have both a current USSA national freestyle license and FIS freestyle license, while international competitors are required to carry an FIS license with inscription from their home nation. Spectators are welcome and encouraged to attend, with numerous on-course viewing areas to take in all the action.

Ski-Cross will make its Olympic debut in the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games, becoming an officially sanctioned-event on the heels of boarder-cross overwhelmingly popular debut in the 2006 Turin Olympic Games. Athletes have been taking to the ski-cross tours with impressive turnouts, earning points along the way to make their respective country's teams and compete in Vancouver. Sugar Bowl's decision to host two separate points-earning races over one weekend will mean more athletes attending and competing, realizing the potential to earn twice the points of a standard race weekend. The level of talent competing and the caliber of racing at hand will benefit, meaning spectators will be treated to Olympic-level racing on a new ski-cross course built on similar specs to that of Cypress Mountain's Olympic track. Spectators on foot can view the race action free of charge, or purchase a lift ticket to ski alongside the course. Ski-cross race weekend logistics, details and specifics: • $95 race entry fee, per race, includes race-day lift ticket. Separate training day lift ticket required at $41, with parent's tickets priced at $49.
  • Deadline for entry is Wednesday March 25th at 3:00pm. A $15 late fee per race may be assessed if entry is granted past the deadline. Separate checks for each race are required
  • Liability release forms are required, and helmets are mandatory
