Transportation accounts for almost a third of our greenhouse gas emissions. Low-occupancy cars and trucks are a large, and avoidable, part of the problem. We all need to work together to stop global climate change; we appreciate your continued ride sharing efforts to help us move in the right direction and keep our winters cool and the snow deep.

Supporting public transportation has always been important to Sugar Bowl. Historically, our goal has been to increase the convenience of getting here, for both employees and guests. However, we also recognize that improving public transportation is a crucial step in reducing our carbon footprint.
We have taken great steps toward reducing traffic flow to the resort and instead promoting high occupancy vehicle travel. The following is a quick summary of a few of our efforts.
- Free employee and public shuttle service is provided from Truckee and Donner Summit. Approximately 326,000 Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT) were avoided this season alone through the Truckee Shuttle Service.
- Every year, we work hard to keep Old Highway 40 open and well maintained. Sugar Bowl provides all the plow service, and road control for the section of Old Highway 40 between Donner Lake and Soda Springs. This significantly reduces time it takes to get here and the number of miles traveled to reach us from Truckee and other locations to our East.
- Through our Rideshare Rewards program, we offer incentives to visitors who either carpool or use public transportation to get to Sugar Bowl.
