Sugar Bowl Ski Academy
A college preparatory school located at the base of Sugar Bowl, Sugar Bowl Academy inspires and empowers passionate and competitive skiers setting the stage for highly motivated student-athletes to seek and celebrate challenge with grit, grace, and courage. Since it was founded in 1999 by Tricia Hellman Gibbs as an extended program of the Sugar Bowl Ski Team Foundation, Tricia’s dream to develop a world-class academic program for competitive skiers lives on. In a relatively short period of time, the school has become nationally recognized as one of the top sports academies in the country.
Sugar Bowl Academy student-athletes have thrived on the dual pursuit of rigorous academics and competitive skiing in an environment that celebrates hard work and the pursuit of worthy goals.The rigorous and authentic curriculum has allowed graduates to matriculate into and succeed at some of the very best colleges and universities in the nation. The athletic program has created world-class athletes who compete at the highest intercollegiate and international levels (nordic, alpine racing and freeride). More importantly, simultaneously pursuing high-level athletics and academics in the challenging environment of Donner Summit creates gritty, focused and self-confident young adults who are prepared for the real world and will always be stewards of the mountains and Donner Summit.
