(Donner Summit, CA) – Defending their respective 2009 Silver Belt Banzai titles, brother and sister combo Daron and Shannon Rahlves provided repeat performances this weekend at Sugar Bowl’s 2010 Silver Belt Banzai, taking the top podium spots in the men’s and women’s ski divisions for a second year in a row. A talented field of 82 athletes entered this year’s Banzai event, a unique and challenging race combining skicross and boarder-x action with downhill speeds, sending 4 racers at one time down the famed Silver Belt Gully in a mad dash to finish first or second in order to advance to the next heat. Rounding out the men’s ski division was second place finisher Kyle Smaine of South Lake Tahoe, followed closely by Sugar Bowl’s own Trevor Tanhoff in third place. The women’s ski class featured Shannon Rahlves posting the fastest time, followed by recent Olympic star Julia Mancuso’s younger sister Sara in second place, while Lauren Smith came in third place. Sugar Bowl snowboarder Brian Bozack topped the men’s snowboard division, followed by ISTC rider Kevin Leahy in second and Applegate’s Cale Myers coming in third. The women’s snowboard division saw Sugar Bowl’s Emily Weer taking the top podium spot, followed by Shanna Carlen and Amanda Spence.
