Location: Backcountry Adventure Center
This is our paramount ski program! It combines lift-access to thousands of acres of amazing backcountry and untracked snow at Sugar Bowl. With not too much uphill touring (with convertible bindings and climbing skins), we access even more great out-of-bounds terrain. It feels like a day of heli-skiing combined with the joy of backcountry touring. This is a great opportunity not only to be introduced to the backcountry skiing experience but also to practice the procedures for leaving the ski resort with a tool pack, avalanche transceiver, probe and shovel, choosing terrain to reduce the hazards and tour smoothly and effectively with climbing skins. This is also a perfect way to learn about skiing as a small team with a professional ski guide, just as in big ski mountaineering projects or snowcat or heli-skiing excursions. The day begins with check-in and gear fitting between 8:30-9:00am. After safety briefing with your guide, you'll begin skiing some of the best terrain at Sugar Bowl. If you don't own AT, telemark skis or a splitboard with skins, we have them for you. Alpine skiers: bring your own alpine boots and we'll click them into state-of-the-art backcountry mountain skis.
