Afternoons will be spent exploring the natural history wonders of the summit and swimming in alpine lakes. All participants will also do a whitewater day with inflatable kayaks.
Mountain Adventure – Sport Tracks plus Field Science and Environmental Service
Ages 13-15 years
Youth can choose a mountain sport focus: mountain biking or rock climbing. Mornings will be spent on progressive challenges on spectacular bike trails, or the world class climbing spots around Donner Summit. All participants will also do a whitewater day with inflatable kayaks.
After the morning of mountain biking or rock climbing, youth will work with Gateway’s field science instructors to collect data for our long- term study of Van Norden meadow, and work on restoration projects to enhance meadow habitat. This is a perfect preparation for future AP biology classes, and environmental service.
Cost $500 plus regular day camp fees.
For Week Two, we are offering an overnight option for the middle and older age groups (ages 8-15). When day camp ends at 4:00pm, the overnighters will stay with our counselor-educators for an evening of fun activities, tasty food, and great accommodations at the Sugar Bowl Academy. Evenings will include adventure film night, night walks, yoga class, crafts and more.To book the Overnight Option, once you add your preferred camp to the shopping cart, click the box that reads '2013 Overnight Camper.'
