Explore Nature
Ages 4-6 yearsYour younger children will enjoy exploring spectacular Donner Summit…mountain meadows, granite outcrops, alpine lakes and forests, all while being guided by top environmental educators. Adventure activities include easy hiking, rock climbing, water play (lifeguard supervised), coupled with nature art making, storytelling, active games, and yoga.
Adventure in Nature
Ages 7-9 yearsDonner Summit is the perfect location for exciting mountain adventures! Our week combines spectacular hiking, rock climbing, kayaking, and mountain biking (New this year!), and whitewater rafting. Camp Sugar Bowl balances adventure with learning, providing campers with educational activities, art, and games that emphasize the stunning natural history, geology, and human history of the Summit.
Mountain Adventure - Sports Tracks
Ages 10-12 yearsNew this year! Youth can choose a mountain sport focus: mountain biking or rock climbing. Mornings will be spent on progressive challenges on spectacular bike trails, or the world class climbing spots around Donner Summit. Afternoons will be spent exploring the natural history wonders of the summit and swimming in alpine lakes. All participants will also do a whitewater day with inflatable kayaks.
Mountain Adventure – Sport Tracks plus Field Science and Environmental Service
Ages 13-15 yearsYouth can choose a mountain sport focus: mountain biking or rock climbing. Mornings will be spent on progressive challenges on spectacular bike trails, or the world class climbing spots around Donner Summit. All participants will also do a whitewater day with inflatable kayaks.
After the morning of mountain biking or rock climbing, youth will work with Gateway’s field science instructors to collect data for our long- term study of Van Norden meadow, and work on restoration projects to enhance meadow habitat. This is a perfect preparation for future AP biology classes, and environmental service.
